THRIVE, the regional health and economic initiative led by Michigan Health Improvement Alliance (MiHIA) and the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance (GLBRA) are announcing two executive leadership roles. Matthew Samocki, Ed.D. has been chosen for the role of THRIVE Portfolio Director effective January 27, 2020. Cathy Baase, M.D’s longstanding service is being formalized with the defined role of THRIVE Senior Fellow. The THRIVE team is unified in driving progress with the breadth of stakeholders and partners throughout the region to achieve health and economic success.  

Dr. Samocki, will lead the overall implementation of the THRIVE portfolio. He will execute comprehensive, sophisticated, large scale project management through the phased implementation of the portfolio. “I embrace the concept of collaborating with all stakeholders to mobilize as a team to make a positive impact in our region,” said Dr. Samocki. He is a Midland resident and comes to THRIVE by way of the Great Lakes Region Mental Health Partnership where he served as Executive Director.

Cathy Base, M.D., FAAFP, FACOEM, in her role as Senior Fellow will continue to represent the THRIVE initiative on the national, state and regional level, guiding strategy development, bring innovative recommendations to the initiative and serve as a local thought leader in pursuit of the transformational THRIVE initiative aims. “As the THRIVE initiative moves ahead, it is important to add the clarity of this role being formalized. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve and remain steadfastly committed to achieving all that is possible with our partners through THRIVE,” said Dr. Baase. She shared that she is “looking forward to working closely with the Portfolio Director and staff within MiHIA and GLBRA as we diligently work to improve the health and economy of our region.” She will continue her volunteer role as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for MiHIA, strengthening the bond between the backbone organization and the THRIVE initiative. Dr. Baase brings her executive leadership and nationally-recognized stature in the field associated with her many concurrent national health roles and the expertise developed through over three decades at Dow to both MiHIA and THRIVE.
