On May 14, 2020, the Michigan Health Endowment Fund Board of Directors approved a grant of $49,995 for the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance to support the program entitled Optimizing Evaluation Metrics of the THRIVE initiative. The grant began on June 1, 2020 and ends May 31, 2021.  

The funding will support the initial work of the THRIVE Evaluation Consortium to optimize evaluation and outcome reporting for health and economic success interventions. The THRIVE technical experts serving on the Evaluation Consortium are using a detailed set of objectives and deliverables that will inform ongoing efforts of THRIVE and ultimately improve health throughout the region by taking the following actions:

  1. Tracking the individual THRIVE portfolio interventions to the overall outcome metrics
  2. Providing technical review of the evaluation plans for individual portfolio items in Phase I and Phase II of THRIVE
  3. Undertaking the overall evaluation, to include developing and implementing systems for data collection, synthesizing and analyzing data, and developing reports
  4. Reviewing evaluation processes and output for potential changes to the evaluation plan and activities
  5. Utilizing evaluation findings to recommend changes to interventions and community action more generally
  6. Developing tool kits and other materials for other organizations to guide efforts similar to those being undertaken by THRIVE

Additionally, one the objectives of the funding is to build capacity with several regional organizations and state level partners. Regional partners will build capacity to support the current and future work, and state partners will learn from the overall THRIVE system and approach which may inform their work with other communities. The organizations that have participated in concept review and input for the evaluation consortium and have agreed to participate by committing individuals and resources going forward include:   

  • Central Michigan University – College of Medicine, College of Health Professions (CMU)
  • Saginaw Valley State University – College of Health Professions, School of Business (SVSU)
  • Michigan State University – Axia Institute (MSU)
  • University of Michigan – Department of Learning Health Sciences (UM-DLHS)
  • Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI)
  • Public Sector Consultants
  • Center for Health & Research Transformation (CHRT)

As both short- and long-term outcomes are successfully achieved, THRIVE and regional partners capacity on several levels will be improved.
